Dose anyone have any advice on how to survive working the grave shift?

I have been doing it for two weeks now and its starting to get to me. on my days off I sleep the whole time.Dose anyone have any advice on how to survive working the grave shift?
You will get used to it and it will suck for a while. Just be sure to make time to spend with your friends or you will really go nuts. It took me a month before I started to feel normal again. And try to keep busy it will keep you awake. I work the night shift too. Also get a gym membership or you will gain weight from the night shift boredom.Dose anyone have any advice on how to survive working the grave shift?
The best advice I can give you is keep the same sleeping schedule. Go to sleep and get up at the *same* times every day, even on your day off. A lot of people who work the night shift try to function as a day time person on their days off (staying up during the day to do their stuff, sleeping at night). That is essentially suicide to your body's clock and will leave you exhausted no matter how much sleep you get.

Night shift workers sometimes have a melatonin deficeincy. If you are having a hard time getting to sleep during the day, you should try a melatonin supplement before bed, or another mild sleep aid that uses benedryal (the sleepy ingredient in almost all otc sleep aids).

Another thing that can help you sleep well is to cover your windows in the bedroom. We have thick black plastic covering the windows in our bedroom, so that it is essentially night-time-dark in the bed room during the day. This will help especially if you are reliant on it being dark to sleep. Plus we are conditioned that were supposed to sleep during the dark, so it will help subconsciously a bit.

Also, make sure you arent getting a lot of caffiene or whatever else before you go to bed thats keeping you up.

Over the next couple weeks your body should start to straiten out and get used to the schedule.
