Can someone give advice on bladder expressing?

My 6 year old dachshund Riley has* ';gone down'; to spine problems. *This means he has no function in his legs and back.

He is under vet care and is being treated he has to have complete rest and is on meds and undergoing accupuncture.

Surgery is not an option right now. So please do not reccommend it- we know all the options.

He can't urinate normally so we are supposed to ';express'; his bladder to remove the urine.

We are having trouble getting him ';to go';.

Anyone with experience who can give us some advice?

Thanks in advanceCan someone give advice on bladder expressing?
Here is a link with pictures. Dont' feel bad if it's really hard to learn to do this. I teach veterinary students, and it takes some practice/ time to master this skill.

Most importantly, the urinary bladder MUST be expressed. There are bad consequences if not. Get additional help from your veterinarian if you think you need some more instruction.

I suggest you revisit your vet and get him to show you exactly how to perform the operation. Doing it incorrectly might cause your poor dog more pain. Best wishes.
You need a vet to teach you this. I have seen vets try to do it and still have problems.
Why didn't the vet consider using a catheter on your dog?

Ask your vet about a catheter and see what they say.

Please talk to the vet!!!!

Add on:Please give the vet a call they will be able to give you advice.
Visit or call your vet as soon as possible for suggestions, as the urine must come out. This site may help, too, with his spine problems.

Good luck!
