A first apartment is a fun experience if you prepare yourself. You need to come up with a budget prior to moving out to see what you can afford. There are different types of apartments out there. The luxury apartments are going to be the pricey places. they are the ones that will include the gradiose things that you may or may not need for a first time apartment. Car wash, movie theatre..those sorts of things. If you aren't looking for all the amenities, then you may want to try a private landlord. You can usually get a good price for rent, and find something unique with charm. You will be required to pay a security deposit. Depending on your credit history, you will either pay something like a half months rent for the deposit or even up to 2 months rent. (I've only seen that in rare occasions though.) You cannot ask about the area, or the people in the apartment. You can try, but typically they'll say that it's all types of people in every age range. Legally they are not allowed to say, due to fair housing laws. If you are concerned about an area, check with your local police department for the crime in that area. Also, check to see if the apartment has gas or electric. Gas is much higher obviously. Ask if they have central air too, because some places don't and you'll have to buy a window unit if you want a/c. Make a list of all the things you'll need before you move out too. From the toilet paper to the trash can!! That way you can plan costs accordingly too. Sorry for rambling so long. I could go on and on! lol If you have any questions feel free to email me.I am looking for an apartment to rent and i need advice?
Well, price depends on where you live but some general things to look for:

* Try flushing the toiliet and running all the sinks to make sure they work properly.

* Visit the apt at different times of day and night to see if it is noisy, too hot, too cold.

* Ask about the general type of people that live in the building (are there a lot of kids/old people/singles?).

* Ask about if you're allowed to paint, change the appliances or flooring and things like that.

Good luck!
has it got a bedroom bathroom and warm water. does the electricity work and will the person whos renting be able to come if there are any problems
well to start your income? how far from work/school? deposits will be expensive think about deposits on a place ,deposits on all utilities etc. it's not easy and at the end of the year apts. will be offering deals just dont rush..everyone wants your money just take baby steps and look around compare what apts. will offer you first good luck and be careful
Check to see if utilities are included and it shouldn't cost more than 1 week's take home pay. Also first and last month rent deposits.
You can go to www.apartments.com to get reviews and they might be able to give you suggestions for what you are looking for. Hint: If you move to a college town, which is a town where a college is located, the rent will be much more.
